From a time, actually, the makers of big films got huge offers from OTT apps including Amazon, Hotstar, Netflix,, and Zee5. But then, big producers of Telugu cinema have actually rejected to give away their movies to streaming apps, saying that their products are carved for theatre experience of the audiences but not to watch on mobile phones and smart TVs.
Using this to their advantage, makers of small movies have started selling their unreleased films to OTT apps. While Amrutharamam has turned up on Zee5, it looks like the floodgates are opened now.
Rana Daggubati’s production venture with Kshanam director Ravikanth Perepu, Krishna, and his Leela is said to be heading for a release on Netflix.
JD Chakravarthy’s latest direction venture MMOF is also getting ready for a digital release. Many other films are also following the suit, we hear.
It is almost like a Clearance Sale by Tollywood’s small budgeted filmmakers as they feel that theatres will not be opened for sure in the next couple of months, and even if they are opened, people might not be daring to rush to theatres until a vaccine for Covid-19 is discovered. For that reason, they are not waiting anymore and now middle-men are said to have started poaching more films for OTTs.

James Mangold cleared up what he meant when the Logan director seemed to fire shots at Justice League's Snyder Cut on Twitter.

Logan director James Mangold cleared up his apparent jab as 2017's Justice League amid accusations that he called out fans of the mythical Snyder Cut.
Posting on Twitter, Mangold urged people to watch Martin Ritt's Norma Rae from 1979 and suggested that perhaps people should "take ten minutes off from your picketing for the Snyder Cut and watch something where the wardrobe isn’t fiberglass or carbon fiber." The original tweet caused plenty of backlash for its apparent slamming of Justice League's Snyder Cut.
Following up on the original tweet, Mangold said he'd woken up to an "avalanche" of angry messages. The Logan director said he was only making a joke and doubts Snyder spends every waking moment thinking about the Snyder Cut. Although Mangold wasn't singling out the Snyder in particular, he suggested there are other kinds of cinema to enjoy instead of superhero blockbusters. While Mangold called out those who've turned their "disappointment into outrage," he reiterated he meant nothing against Snyder.
Mangold is known for his work on Logan, which rounded off Hugh Jackman's legacy as Wolverine. The film became one of the highest-grossing R-rated movies of all time and earned the director a nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay at the Academy Awards. In contrast, Joss Whedon and Zack Snyder's Justice League was released the same year and is considered a critical and commercial failure.

In late 2019, Mangold weighed in on the argument between Martin Scorsese and superhero movies. He largely backed the Taxi Driver director and criticized the boom in company-controlled cinematic universes. Although his latest message got lost in the controversy surrounding the Snyder Cut, Mangold's tweets echo what he said during the Scorsese debate and how directors should be free to tell their own version of a story without interference from above.

Disney ABSOLUTELY must have Danny DeVito reprise the role of Phil for the live-action remake of Hercules.
Now that Disney has confirmed that a live-action Hercules is in the works, fans have already begun to fan-cast the film. And while it's still in the early stages with no casting to be announced, Danny DeVito absolutely must return to play Phil, the satyr in the hero-training business who becomes Hercules' mentor in his journey to become a worthy hero. DeVito voiced the character in the 1997 animated film and his performance is a fan favorite. He should return to the role for the same reason James Earl Jones returned as Mufasa for the photo-realistic The Lion King remake. After all, you can not do better than perfection.
DeVito is the perfect actor to portray the hot-headed mentor. He has the exact right temperament for the role. He is especially gifted at the ability to play angry and explosive without also being violent or unlikable. He demonstrated in Jumanji: The Next Level his ability to play the cranky "I'm too old for this" type character while remaining endearing and likable. Phil is an undeniable hot-head, but DeVito's vocal performance balances that out with a character audiences care about. He might be angry, but he also demonstrates softer emotions.

Sue Bruce-Smith

The much-loved and well-respected champion of U.K. indie films, whose long list of credits include 'The Favourite' and '12 Years a Slave,' had been diagnosed with cancer two years ago.

Sue Bruce-Smith, Film4's deputy director and a much-loved and hugely respected figure in the British film industry, has died. She was 62.
Bruce-Smith, who had been diagnosed with cancer in 2018, died on May 2 in Dublin, where she had been receiving treatment supported by her family.
In a tribute, Film4 director Daniel Battsek said that his colleague – whose list of credits spans some of the best British independent cinema over the past 20 years, and included The Favourite, Room, The Iron Lady and You Were Never Really Here – was "quite simply the best ally to have in your corner, personally and professionally."
Bruce-Smith spent two decades of her career at Film4, first joining the organization in 1997 after stints at the BFI’s production division, BBC Worldwide and Palace Pictures.
In 2001, she relocated with her family to Dublin, where she’s lived ever since, and joined independent producer Little Bird. But she was lured back to Film4 by Tessa Ross in 2004 and remained there ever since.
Battsek said that he asked her to take on the role of deputy director "in recognition of her enormous contribution to the organization, to the British independent film sector, and to a whole generation of British filmmakers who benefitted from her wisdom, expertise, and kindness."
Over the years, Bruce-Smith developed close working relationships with rising filmmakers now considered to be among the very best, including Steve McQueen, working with the director on every feature of his, right from his debut Hunger to his Oscar-winning 12 Years a Slave and his latest feature Widows. At the Widows U.K. premiere in London in 2018, McQueen gave a shout out to Bruce-Smith in the audience, saying that "This screening is for you, Sue."
She also applied her expertise to all three of Yorgos Lanthimos' features with Film4 in The Lobster, The Killing of a Sacred Deer and The Favourite, and four titles from Ben Wheatley, from 2011's Kill List to 2015's High Rise. Her final credit was the Toronto-bowing Rocks, her second with director Sarah Gavin having worked on her previous feature, Suffragette.
"Sue’s knowledge and skillset spanned finance, production, marketing, distribution, and sales," added Battsek. "Her reputation was second to none, and she was a key element of Film4’s relationships with our partners and stakeholders, playing an integral role in many of our most successful and iconic films."
Last year, BAFTA celebrated Bruce-Smith's career with a special Tribute event to reflect on her outstanding contribution to the industry, at which a wide range of filmmakers she’d helped demonstrated their love and respect for her.
On accepting her award, she talked about the things that sustained her interest throughout her career: she loved independent film; she loved working in the public service, and the opportunity that afforded to take risks, make work that had social relevance and broaden the pool of filmmaking talent; but most of all, she loved the collaborative process of making and releasing films, feeding off the collective spirit and endeavor required, and the camaraderie created.

LEGO Batman snarls as he holds onto his weapons in 'The LEGO Batman Movie'
Unless you’ve been living on another planet for the last few weeks, you’re probably well aware of what you need to do to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. The messaging around pandemic best practices have been widespread -- but it’s mostly been targeted at adults. So DC and LEGO teamed up to create a hilarious, but seriously educational and kid-friendly, a video starring LEGO Batman.
Fans of the LEGO Movie franchise will remember that LEGO Batman is basically like normal Batman but with an ego dialed up to eleven. His cockiness about everything from doing push-ups to battling enemies is a large part of what makes him one of the funniest LEGO Movie characters. And that’s all on display in the short clip, which was shared on LEGO’s Twitter account.
Will Arnett returns to voice LEGO Batman, and he’s joined (off-screen) by Ralph Fiennes’ Alfred, who patiently attempts to keep the superhero on track while they discuss the coronavirus pandemic. At first, LEGO Batman is all bluster, offering to beat up the virus so that it can’t hurt anyone. When Alfred tells him he can’t fight it like that because it’s, you know, invisible, LEGO Batman is at a bit of a loss.
Alfred then explains what COVID-19 is and why it’s dangerous, while LEGO Batman occasionally throws in a couple of sardonic wisecracks. By the end of Alfred’s COVID-19 101 lesson, LEGO Batman seems a little bit spooked:
Hey, not to be a buzzkill but this is all kind of scary. Not for me, of course! But for the kids.
But Alfred tells both him and anyone listening that it’s normal to feel anxious and that talking to a trusted adult will help. (LEGO Batman finally finds a way to stay on message and offers up some helpful advice for viewers of all ages:
You guys can be superheroes by simply listening to health experts and helping stop the spread of the virus, which is far less difficult than my job, fighting crime, but still super important.
And of course, he manages to get in a bit of self-promotion before it’s all said and done when offering some final words of wisdom:
Wash our hands, maintain good social distancing and watch LEGO Batman on repeat.
The video feels like a perfect way to communicate the reality of this pandemic to a younger audience. It feels like it could have been lifted straight out of a LEGO Movie, and it also explains the situation in a way that is super easy for kids to understand. It offers a realistic view of what’s happening while keeping in mind how scary it can be. It also serves as a great reminder of what an awesome character LEGO Batman is -- hopefully we’ll eventually get to see him on our screens again, battling an enemy that isn’t quite so invisible.
